DAMON POINT STATE PARK
This park lies at the southeastern corner of the Ocean
Shores peninsula. The park consists of a beach along
Marine View Drive SE and a big sand spit projecting east into
Grays Harbor. The currents frequently reshape this park.
Online maps show a road leading into the park and out onto
the spit, but this was destroyed and now you park along
Marine View Drive. The shipwreck of the S.S. Catala lies
mostly buried in the park. A storm in February 2006 exposed
more of the ship than had been visible for a long time.
The park provides views of the Olympic mountains to the
north, Grays Harbor to the east, Westport to the south, and
the North Jetty and the ocean to the west.
We saw the cutest baby seal resting on the rocks on our visit
here. It was awaiting its mother, we hope.
