PACIFIC BEACH STATE PARK
This beautiful park lies immediately at the edge of the town of
Pacific Beach on one side and the ocean on the other. Its
busy campground has uninterrupted views of the ocean. You
will often see a fleet of RVs parked here with kites and
penants flying.
Beyond the campground and grassy beach dunes stretches
the fine, sandy beach - typically between a quarter and half
mile, depending on the tide. To the south the park is bounded
by Joe Creek with its decades old poles reminding us of a
forgotten pier. In the distance on a clear day you can just
make out Copalis Rock several miles to the south. The sand
wraps around here along the campground and up the creek
for views of some expensive vacation homes.
To the north some crumbling sandstone cliffs rise up where
the naval Pacific Beach Resort sits. The plant life and
wildflowers here are interesting to explore. Out on the beach
you'll find scattered sand dollar and clam shells, washed up
crabs picked over by the seagulls, kelp, and driftwood. After
a mile and a half walk to the north you reach the Analyde Gap
Road - recently paved - which provides access back to the
town. If you head north on the beach you reach Sunset
Beach and the town of Moclips. In the distance beyond
Moclips you can make out the collection of seastack rocks
marking Point Grenville.
