Visit Taholah, the Quinault River mouth, and Cape Elizabeth

Directly off the town of Taholah at the mouth of the Quinault
River lies a beautiful beach. This is a rocky beach like those
found to the north in the Olympic National Park. Across the
river to the north you can see the massive red sandstone
rocks of Cape Elizabeth. At the river mouth you can observe
a contest between the salt and freshwater, as the ocean
waves scour out an interesting pattern in the rocks inside
the river mouth. To the south is one of the most massive
driftwood piles to be found anywhere. Up in the Quinault Rain
Forest the spruce trees grow up to 300 feet tall. They
eventually end up here on this beach as logs. Far to the
south you can see the rocks of Point Grenville and it appears
that you can walk several miles in that direction. The beach
is backed up by a very scenic forest of windswept trees. And
I should mention the ocean: the waves are wild and
exhilarating here.

Back in the town there is not much for the tourist to visit,
except for the Mercantile shop and the Quinault Pride
Seafood processing plant, where you can buy the blue back
salmon unique to the Quinault River.

You can obtain a beach pass on week days from the tribal
administrative buildings (building B) - the group of modern
office buildings just past the entrance to town on the right
along highway 109. On weekends, a pass may be obtained at
the police station. The cost for a one day family pass is $15.
